Here's a question. When was the French Association of Jehovah's Witnesses established? I want to do some calculations then if anybody knows.

The Society and taxes
by Agent 1 of 1 inwe all know about how the society has tried its best to avoid taxes.
for one, the whole deal with switching over to contributions for literature after jimmy swaggart lost his case.
and also with providing food at the conventions.

Thx everyone for the responses. I remember reading a quote from Russell in which if the Society were not to receive anymore money then that would be a sign that God does not need them to publish anymore. Yeah, like the Society will allow that to happen. LOL.

Kingdom Ministry...."Youths.. who will you put first in your life?"
by integ in1) our young ones are indeed a grand blessing in the congregation.
they often times assist elderly ones in the ministry, take on responsibility in the congregation, and also assist in the caring and maintenance of the kingdom halls.
but thoughtful youth also do well to ask themselves..."am i doing enough?".

Well, I think this whole thread is funny. Made my day.
Nathan Natas - Stupid 3 year old! LOL
Okay, I do have to relate a real experience though. At the last DC, they gave an experience of a girl that wanted her mom to go back to meetings. I forget how young the girl was but she was supposedly pretty young; preteen. Anyways, the girl told her mom that she cared about her and that she doesn't want her to feel exasperated at her when she tells her of her concerns. And when the little girl makes it to paradise, she didn't want to have to explain to others why her mother wasn't there. Then the mom realized the errors of her way and is back attending. Then everyone in the audience was all "Awwww." (How cute.) Where in the world does a little girl learn the word exasperated?
Out of the mouth of babes. Awwwwwwwwww. -

We all know about how the society has tried its best to avoid taxes. For one, the whole deal with switching over to contributions for literature after Jimmy Swaggart lost his case. And also with providing food at the conventions. How it was left up to us to contribute for the provisions for several years until the whole food arrangement was dissed.
What I'm wondering is why not just accept being taxed. The whole food thing at the convention was a disaster I'm sure for the Society when they switched to donations. It just seems to me that if they had a price for everything, and even if it was taxed, they'd still make a profit. It seems then they wouldn't have to leave it up to luck and they would have control over how much money they make.
So, the question is, what does the Society have to gain by not being taxed?Any answers?

Let's face it. The main reason to be a JW is the feeling of belonging.
by new light indon't you agree?
the doctrine part has its appeal for some people, but most join and stay because it feels good to belong to something larger than yourself.. realizing this may make it easier for some to stay away.
that longing you may feel at first to join them or go back to them is not holy spirit, it's just the natural human inclination to belong to a group.

Sorry, new light, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. For me personally, anyways. Maybe this is the case for everyone else.
Being raised as a JW all my life, it was the only thing I knew. If I didn't go to meetings, I didn't feel terrible cause I missed the association. I felt guilty for displeasing God. So, to me, it was all about religon and spirituality, a way of life, not just for association.
Once again, this was how it was for me. Maybe others felt the same or not. But I do agree that I like this group of people here a lot better. They at least don't slam you down for your ideas and imagination. They let you be who you are. And if there is a god, I believe that's exactly how he would act too. -

Thx everyone for helping. When I went to the convention, I was already fading and it was alot more easy to see the foolishness among the talks. I was trying to pay attention to the speakers and what they were trying to say, but I don't even think they knew what they were saying.
Yeah, Blondie, it will probably come out on the Watchtower 05 cd. I won't get a copy but I'm sure a few out there will. Thx again everyone for trying. -
